This is a target made by the same company that created the original block archery target so it uses the compressed open layers of foam idea. The nice thing about the layers of foam is that the arrow removal is very simple.
The mistake that I made when purchasing this target is that I bought the cheaper version with just the standard open layer insert. For about 20 shots this was fine until I would hit the exact same place on the target twice, then my arrow would pass through. So I just kept adding the replacement layers but the arrows kept sliding through. Eventually I bought the vital insert with a foam covering around the layers and this stopped the problem of having arrows slip through. If you are not too concerned about what you are shooting at and just need practice I would recommended buying the Block Target but if you would rather shoot at a 3-D target, make sure you buy the model that comes with the vital insert.
