Savage Arms 12 Series Varmint Model 12 BTCSS .22-250 Review:
The 12 Series Varmint Model 12 BTCSS by Savage Arms is a sweet performing and looking rifle! It is available in several calibers including 223 Rem, 204 Ruger, and 22-250 Rem. We tested and are reviewing the 22-250 version.
The rifle features a thumbhole stock - which our shooters greatly prefer. This design is super comfortable, allowing for an even steadier shot (resulting in greater accuracy). The stock is made out of a laminate material with a cherry wood look, providing a great balance between aesthetics and durability.
The 12 Series Varminter BTCSS also features a heavy fluted barrel with recessed target crown. It dissipates heat well, but that comes at a cost as the gun weighs in at 10 pounds (not including scope or sling). The gun also features Savage's AccuTrigger - we are on the fence about these triggers - some of our staff really enjoys them, well others prefer to have a trigger job done removing this one.
The gun has three sling swivel studs. It also has a detachable box magazine which holds 4 rounds (plus one in the chamber for a total of five) - the previous years' model didn't have this.
If you are looking for a long-range varmint or predator rifle with a thumbhole stock, give this gun a look!
